Introduction

Burningswell is a surf-intelligence platform. Its free consumer app reads global weather and wave models and turns them into surf forecasts for the spots you follow — the surf and the conditions around it: swell and its direction, wind, and tide, and how they line up over the days ahead.

What you can do depends on whether you have signed in:

Without an account

Anyone reads the forecast of every public spot, browses the catalogue by continent, country and region, searches it, and pans the forecast map. Nothing on those pages asks you to sign in.

With an account

You follow the spots you surf, so they lead the home page; log the sessions you surf and keep your own record of them; keep a quiver of your boards; see your lifetime record, Surf Life; and see the secret spots other surfers have shared with you among the public ones.

This guide starts with reaching the application and getting a first forecast (see Getting Started), then tours the web application page by page (see The Web Application), and explains how to read forecasts and find and follow spots (see Forecasts and Spots). To find a page by its address, use the list of every page at the end of this guide (see Pages).

Every Burningswell server also serves this guide on the site itself: its documentation starts at /docs, and this guide is at /docs/users/ — for example ‘https://prod.burningswell.com/docs/users/’. The developer guide sits beside it for accounts that hold the developer role (see The documentation).
